To become a qualified barber, you need to pass all the following steps:
The Board holds examinations 4 times annually (in January, April, July, and October). Examinees must apply at least 15 days before the day of the testing.
To participate in the exam, you need to fill out the application form, provide the essential documents and pay the costs. The cost for the exam is $190 and this also includes the $90 fee for a two-year warranty.
The testing process contains written and practical components. The 2-hour written test covers questions on the fundamentals of the profession and national laws. Then you should show your knowledge in practice.
To get the qualification for both components you have to score at least 75%.
After fulfilling all the demands, you may apply for authorization. There are two options available:

The validity of the document is two years. If you want to continue your career you must renew your warrant every other year. This law spreads to guys’ hairdressers, shops, colleges, and instructors.
The expiration date is the same for all males’ hairstylists (every even-numbered year on June 30th). To complete this procedure, you should also prove 8-hour continuing education.
